My magic experience (continued...)
After seeing Coperfield on stage I was very intrigued of all he did. I knew he is only human and he must have done all those things through skill, knowledge and gimicks of some sort. Therefore I started a quest to find the answer to some of his secrets.
My first stop was obviously the internet and it took me a few full days until I found something relevant to my searches (nowadays it's a lot easier to find magic related info due to Blaine's & Angel's popularity). Anyhow, I found an online magic store from where I rodered my first tricks. These 2 were the tricks that launched me into the world of magic, the world of secrets and entertainment. I would recommend them to anyone.
What were the magic tricks? Well, the first one was the "flying card". It has many names, but basically it is a gimmick that allows you to float playing cards around you, lift credit card or pull paper napkins towards you. It was and still is a very good trick and not very hard to master.
The second trick was a very well chosen one because it revealed to me how many other card tricks are made. It was called the invisible deck. The effect is that you have an entire deck full of blank cards (back & front) and all of a sudden, whenever you want to, you can make a card appear in the entire blank deck. Not only that but by the end of your performance you can turn the entire blank deck into a normal one.
Anyhow, these tricks are not that expensive and I recommend them to anyone who whants to learn a little bit of magic.

My first magic experience
I still remember the day when my friend took me to see David Copperfield for the first time. It was a gift for my birthday, a gift that changed my life and welcomed me into the world of magic.
We both knew about Copperfield, we also saw him on TV from time to time and obiously we heard a lot about his illusions. We kept talking about how he passed through the "Wall of China" or how he made the Statue of Liberty dissapear. We just couldn't wait to see him live. So a couple of hours later we saw this incredible show of magic, humor and illusion. I still remember sitting in that chair, a few feet in front of him, (we had front seats because we thought that this way we might see how some of the things are done - we never did) being amazed at everything that he did and just could not stop wondering...how did he do it?
A few years later I understood some of the mystery behind the lottery trick, the chopper illusion, the duck in bucket and even the Statue of Liberty dissapearance, but that's another story. The important thing is that this show that I saw made me very curious about this world of magic and illusion.
This was my first magic experience. I will continue in telling the rest some other time...

How to make money with magic
Here are a few ways to combine your hobby with your job and be praised and better paid for coming up with the idea.
1. If you hand out flyers/brochures, or do any kind of business promotion...You can incorporate some tricks into it. For example the rip and tear of a flyer only to make it become whole again. Stuff like this will attract viewrs that in turn you can hand out stuff too.
2. Bar magic. If you are a bartender, your boss will appreciate any magic that you do because that will attract new clients and make them stay longer at the bar. (ex: paper over glass trick -> glass dissapears). Of course at a bar, lots of tricks (even card tricks) can be done, but you should incorporate items found at a bar: cups, straws, glasses, peanuts...
3. Party magician. This is one of the biggest things for amateur magicians...when you perform for kids it is a lot easier than when performing for grownups. You make them happy, you amaze their parents, you have fun doing it and you also get paid.
4. Party themed magician. This is pretty much the same, only that you incorporate theme elements into your act. For example, if it's a Christmas party, you get to make cookies dissapear (not in your mouth) or magically pull a light out of the Christmas tree and play with it.

He has over 25 years of experience as a magician and he performed in numerous places, one of which being the famous Magic Castle. I recommend looking him up if you haven't already done so. Go check out some of his videos and DVDs. I personally recommend his first "Tested Card Work For Card Sharp Magicians" DVD (it teaches you some really cool card tricks).
Now back to me...After I spent some time on a couple of his blogs (go and check them out), I e-mailed him kindly asking for a link exchange. The next day he replied to my e-mail in an article on his blog:

Should magic secrets be revealed?
I was just browsing theInternetyesterday and I stumbled upon a website that revealed quite a few magic tricks. There were quite a few complaints about the revelations, but there were also people that appreciated them. I agree with both.
I agree that the Internet is a medium through which information should be shared freely. Some magic secrets could be revealed, but not most of them. I have no problem with some outdated magic tricks being revealed. The problem is with the newer tricks and the gizmo used to perform. The only way I would agree with that is if the targeted audience could be controlled and there is no way really to do that unless you would have to pay for that information.
Why I don't agree to reveal most of the magic secrets? Well, because if anyone knows the secrets then soon there will be no magic left.
I am sure pretty much everyone knows about Blaine's levitation trick. I think you all remember the first time you saw that on TV. You could not believe your eyes, right? I think it still impressed you the second time you saw it as well. After you knew the secret though, you really think it is a silly trick, right? It does not do anything for you anymore. Same logic applies to any other magic/illusion trick. Once you know the secret, you can't see past it and you stop enjoying it.
As a magician, that is the curse. You have to know the trick in order to perform the magic. The only joy you get from this is when you perform it to someone and you amaze that person. It is a good trade.
Therefore I agree for the secrets to be revealed to those that apply them to amaze other people, but I don't agree for them to be known by people that are just curious.
